UBAC
Ubac is a fictional artistic third-place in Montpellier, France. I created this visual identity with Mona Jagiello, Lucile Fulmart, and Charline Noël as a part of our Masters program at the École de Condé in December, 2020.
The concept behind Ubac is to create a place that will hilight under-represented minorities and show France’s diversity. Ubac will exhibit exclusively french artists, all of which are minorities. Ubac’s goal is to create a community in Montpellier and become a true third place, after the home and work, for its regular customers.
The main portion of the third-place is its art gallery, but Ubac also offers various other activities. There is a café in collaboration with a local and environmentally-concious boulangerie, la Maison Bonnaire. There are regular workshops which are always related to the theme of the ongoing exhibit. There will also be occasional concerts, always with French artists, during openings and other big events. In short, Ubac is a place for artistic discovery of all types, as well as a meeting place for all open-minded people.
Our visual identity is based on the idea of a fluid line that represents the connection that Ubac creates between the artists who exhibit their work there and the people who frequent the third-place.
